The Best Thesis Award 2026: Planning recognizes exceptional thesis projects focused on urban planning, regional development, spatial strategy, and future city-making. As cities continue to evolve in response to rapid urbanization, climate change, mobility challenges, and social transformation, planners play a vital role in shaping resilient and inclusive environments.
This award provides an international platform for emerging planners and urban designers to present visionary ideas that contribute to the future of human settlements.
Objective
The competition seeks to identify and celebrate planning theses that demonstrate strategic thinking, analytical rigor, innovation, and meaningful responses to contemporary urban challenges.
Participants are encouraged to develop proposals that balance economic growth, environmental sustainability, mobility, housing, infrastructure, and social equity.
Eligibility
The competition is open to:
- Individual participants only
- Planning, Urban Design, and Urban Planning graduates from 2024, 2025, and 2026
- Final-year students completing a planning-related thesis during 2026
Collaborative submissions are not permitted.

- Sustainable Communities
- Green and Blue Infrastructure
- Housing and Community Development
- Urban Policy and Governance

Submissions may focus on neighborhood, city-wide, metropolitan, or regional scales.
Evaluation Criteria
Submissions will be evaluated based on:
